In almost every case, this is going to be an issue related to the format of the image itself. The image may be in a format or color supported by Firefox, but not Internet Explorer.
A place to start, is to make sure your image is using RGB color, as opposed to CMYK. If you have Photoshop handy, open the image and you'll see the image mode in the title bar.
